Nakilat adds new LPG and ammonia carrier Energy North to its fleet

DOHA – Qatar-based shipping company Nakilat is expanding its fleet with the new LPG and ammonia carrier Energy North. The vessel has a cargo capacity of 88,000 cubic metres and is scheduled to enter service on October 2, 2026. Energy North is the first vessel to be delivered under a six-vessel newbuilding programme at South Korea’s HD Hyundai Samho shipyard.

The official naming ceremony for Energy North was held at the HD Hyundai Samho shipyard in Yeongam, South Korea.

The newbuilding programme of Qatar Gas Transport Company Limited, better known as Nakilat, comprises a total of two LNG carriers and four LPG/ammonia carriers.

With the fleet expansion, Nakilat aims to strengthen its operational capabilities and respond to growing global demand for energy transportation services.

Cargo capacity of 88,000 cubic metres

Energy North has been specifically designed to transport both LPG and ammonia and offers a cargo capacity of 88,000 cubic metres.

The vessel is equipped with advanced dual-fuel propulsion technology and emissions-reduction systems. According to Nakilat, these technologies provide improved fuel efficiency, greater operational flexibility and enhanced environmental performance.
