KOTUG acquires majority stake in Vortex Offshore and significantly expands Middle East fleet

ROTTERDAM/DUBAI – KOTUG International has acquired a majority stake in Dubai-based Vortex Offshore, significantly expanding the Dutch maritime company’s operations and vessel fleet in the Middle East. Vortex Offshore operates a fleet of 11 offshore vessels, with another four vessels currently under construction.

According to KOTUG, the acquisition marks an important step in its long-term growth strategy and strengthens both its operational footprint and offshore maritime capabilities across the Middle East.

KOTUG has already been active in the Middle East for several years from its regional office in Dubai. Its regional activities include subsea services, vessel management and the management of maritime operations supporting customers across the Middle East and Africa.

Eleven vessels and four under construction

Founded in 2010 and headquartered in Dubai, Vortex Offshore provides offshore maritime services in the Middle East and surrounding markets.

The company currently operates 11 offshore vessels, while four additional offshore vessels are under construction. Its fleet supports offshore energy projects, marine transportation, towage and other related maritime activities.

By combining the activities of both companies, KOTUG aims to create a larger platform for further growth in the Middle East’s offshore and energy markets.

“This acquisition is a significant step in KOTUG’s long-term growth strategy,” said Ard-Jan Kooren, President & CEO of KOTUG International.

“By joining forces with Vortex Offshore, we are substantially expanding our operational footprint, fleet and service capabilities in the region.”

According to Kooren, Vortex Offshore has built a strong reputation, an experienced team and an impressive operational platform. The combination is expected to create new opportunities for growth and strengthen KOTUG’s ability to support customers across the maritime and energy sectors.

Overname Kotug

Vortex Offshore retains its name

Vortex Offshore will continue to operate under its existing name and management structure following the transaction, ensuring continuity for customers, employees and business partners.

As part of the KOTUG Group, Vortex Offshore will gain access to KOTUG’s global network and operational expertise, as well as continued investment in innovation, safety and sustainable maritime solutions.

Edwin Westerhof, Managing Director of Vortex Offshore, described the transaction as a new phase in the company’s development.

“KOTUG’s global reach, maritime expertise and innovative approach provide a strong foundation for future growth, while allowing us to preserve the regional knowledge, relationships and entrepreneurial culture that define our business,” Westerhof said.

Further growth in offshore market

KOTUG expects the combined organisation to be well positioned to meet growing demand for offshore support, marine transportation, towage and integrated maritime services throughout the Middle East.

The acquisition supports KOTUG’s strategy of combining local market knowledge with global maritime capabilities.

KOTUG operates across Europe, Australia, Asia, Africa and the Americas. The company has a history spanning more than 100 years and provides towage and other maritime services to customers in the global maritime and energy industries.
